Water Cube Pavilion
The theme of the 2012 International Exposition in Yeosu, South Korea, is “The Living Ocean and Coast”. As a response, architects at MVRDV have designed a pavilion that will contribute to raising awareness of the fragility of ocean ecosystems. The building is a kind of aquarium, a glass structure made of water basins that surround the central void.

Here’s another entry in the “architecture as a natural but inanimate object” category: The new “Cybertecture Egg” has been designed as a poultry-inspired office building for Mumbai, India. The 32'000 square meter building was designed by James Law Cybertecture International firm.
Hotel Yas
Recently, Asymptote architectural groupe has finished the Hotel Yas that houses up to 500 rooms at a surface of 85 000 square meters. This luxurious hotel is one of the most significant buildings of an ambitious 36 billion harbor Yas located near-by the F1 circuit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
A cactus sprouts as a new office tower in Qatar
The new office for the Qatar Minister of Municipal Affairs & Agriculture (MMAA) is one that speaks creatively and directly to the location and the office’s subject matter: it’s shaped like a giant cactus.
Bangkok firm Aesthetic Architecture has designed a modern, glass succulent for the MMAA, using the cactus as design inspiration both in how the building looks and functions.

Kubota & Bachmann Architects won a honorable mention for the Maritime Culture & Pop Music Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Color is joy, color is love and color is Pop! Joy is the pleasure of living in front of the sea. Love is the meeting of two programs on a single site. Pop is the new symbol of Kaohsiung’s port.
Zayed National Museum
Serving as a monument and memorial to the UAE’s founding President Sheik Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Zayed National Museum will be a focal point of the emerging Saadiyat Island Cultural District. All aspects of the Museum, from architectural design to museum exhibit themes were conceived to reflect the life and values of the late Sheikh Zayed.
Innovative Urban Night Club
The urban night club designed by Tiffany Dahlen and Virginia Melnyk responds to the vibrant and eclectic youth culture of Harajuku and balances the high fashion of Omontesando.
The urban club consists of a large meet and greet entry area, sushi restaurant, sake bar, music lounge and two VIP lounges.

Clear Polycarbonate Room Above the Thames
Perched amid the rooftops of London, between the Thames River and the sky above, a sphere of clear polycarbonate designed by Julian King Architect, 7 m in diameter, encases a room of 42 s.m.
